Global Careers - Asia: Lines of Business

Bank of America Merrill Lynch is a leader in financial services, offering a full range of products and advisory to individuals, corporations, institutions and governments worldwide. As in other markets where it operates, Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s activities in the Asia Pacific region are organized into independent but interrelated business lines and support units.

Global Corporate & Investment Banking

Corporate & Investment Banking encompasses Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s corporate lending, advisory and capital markets businesses in the region. It serves the long-term needs of corporations and financial institutions, drawing on the bank’s global expertise and local knowledge across all industry sectors.

Specialized product teams focused on corporate lending, corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions and capital markets work together with the origination bankers seamlessly to help clients grow their businesses. The origination teams are organized by country and include industry sector specialists, focused on financial institutions, financial sponsors, real estate, industrials, healthcare, consumer & retail, telecommunications, media, technology, and energy & power. Together the product, country and industry teams provide the most insightful and globally connected advice to clients in the region.

The capital markets division includes debt capital markets, equity capital markets and equity-linked capital markets and assists corporations in raising funds through both the public and private international capital markets. Alongside the product units is the corporate finance and restructuring division, which assists clients in determining the best course of corporate finance management to grow their businesses.

Global Markets

The Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Markets group is at the forefront of the world’s financial markets, providing liquidity, pricing and execution across the equity, fixed income, derivatives, interest rate, foreign exchange and commodities markets.

The unit is engaged in sales, trading, and originating financial assets for its institutional clients through established trading hubs, exchange memberships and primary dealerships in all the major financial markets in the region. In addition, the bank offers financial structuring services including asset & liability management and hedging solutions to both its investor and issuer clients.

It employs a team of sales, trading and financial professionals across the region and in global financial centers. The unit also offers financing and prime brokerage services, including securities clearing, settlement and custody to its institutional clients.

Banc of America Securities-Merrill Lynch Research is one of the region’s leading research houses. It provides timely, insightful, independent and comprehensive macroeconomic, fixed income, strategy, quantitative, derivatives, equity-linked, industry and corporate research to an international institutional client base.

Global Product Solutions

Bank of America Merrill Lynch is the leading provider of treasury management, liquidity management, global trade solutions and reporting services through the Global Product Solutions unit. Our clients include small businesses, middle-market and large corporations, financial institutions and governments and we assist them in designing and implementing the full range of integrated credit and treasury products.

The group also provides solutions for working capital needs through the delivery of full service transaction capabilities in foreign exchange dealing, short-term investments, financing and other trade services.

Global Wealth & Investment Management

Global Wealth & Investment Management provides a broad range of wealth management products and solutions to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals in Asia-Pacific.

Private Wealth Managers in the region serve as essential partners to their clients in preserving and managing their wealth. They bring a customized approach to wealth management, offering tailored solutions by drawing on the breadth and depth of Bank of America Merrill Lynch's global capabilities and expertise to serve each client’s financial needs.

GWIM offers proprietary and third-party investment solutions across different asset classes including equity, fixed income, foreign exchange, mutual funds and alternative investments. The group leverages the firm's award-winning global and regional research to deliver market and economic insights as well as investment ideas to clients. GWIM also provides clients with trust and estate planning services to help them achieve their multi-generational wealth objectives.

Human Resources

At Bank of America Merrill Lynch, we understand that the success of an organization depends on its people. The Global Human Resources team at Bank of America Merrill Lynch plays an integral role in driving that success. It aligns Human Resources strategy to the business strategy, enabling the company to drive revenue growth through attracting, developing and retaining a world-class workforce.

The Global Human Resources group contributes to the success of the company through assisting with planning for future growth, architecting and implementing changes to improve organizational performance, creating an engaging and productive environment for associates, and delivering critical services to ensure the successful day-to-day operation of the business. Our Global Human Resources associates must display strong business acumen, relationship building and strategic partnership and execution across several businesses.

In the Asia Pacific region, there are three primary areas within the Global Human Resources team:

  • Regional Line of Business HR: These HR leaders partner with the most senior regional business executives to ensure HR capabilities are aligned with business unit plans, and work together with the Executives to ensure successful execution of business plans across the region.

  • Regional HR specialty functions: The teams in Staffing, Compensation & Benefits, Learning & Leadership Development and Infrastructure Shared Services provide expertise and build sophisticated solutions to meet business growth plans.

  • Country HR: These associates provide local expertise in labor markets, compensation and benefits trends, and employment law to the enterprise. They also manage and deliver local recruiting, compensation and payroll, associate relations, and compliance.

Technology

The Technology division at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Asia provides and coordinates all technology support for the entire bank. Technology works in partnership with each of the business lines and support units, providing network, desktop, mainframe, software design and development, application delivery and hosting, architecture and system support and maintenance.

The Singapore Command Centre is one of two Bank of America Merrill Lynch global command centers that provides technology and back office support to the bank’s entire operations across the globe.

Corporate Workplace

Corporate Workplace is responsible for all real estate-related services within the global portfolio including lease transactions, construction management, and facilities management across all of Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s premises in the Asia region. Corporate Workplace distinguishes Bank of America Merrill Lynch from its competition by delivering innovative, environmentally sustainable real estate and workspace solutions in all markets. This is achieved by working with each of the individual business lines to craft real estate solutions demanded by business needs including occupancy space planning requirements for both the short and long term across all the markets in Asia.

Finance

The Finance unit at Bank of America Merrill Lynch is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of financial information for the bank’s entire business operations in the region. It works closely with the individual business lines to forecast, measure and plan all aspects of financial performance and data. Finance is also responsible for ensuring that financial regulatory requirements are met in each of the individual markets where the bank operates. In addition, Finance is responsible for the verification and independent valuation of the entire bank’s individual trading portfolios across the spectrum of asset classes.

Legal

At Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the Legal department is responsible for the provision of legal services for all of the bank’s activities in the region across multiple jurisdictions and business activities. It works closely with its Risk partners, including Compliance, Audit, Tax and Finance to identify and implement both best practices and legally compliant policies and procedures across the bank’s business and support unit activities.
